Welcome to Jockey’s Ridge Crossing, a shopping center of 8 unique retailers located directly across from the East Coast’s largest sand dune. Visiting Jockey’s Ridge is always a lot of fun!
During the summer there’s weeknight ‘Summer Sunset Festivals’ with entertainment and activities; and Wednesday is always ‘Kids Day’ with mid-day activities that include kite making; visits from performers who appear in ‘The Lost Colony’; pirates; and always a special collection of kites flying overhead.
The shopping center is home base for Kitty Hawk Kites, one of the Outer Banks’ oldest and best-known retailers. So you’ll find games, kites, boogie boards, beachwear, T-shirts, hats, and toys—you name it. Plus you can sign up for all sorts of activities including kayaking, parasailing, hang gliding, kiteboarding, dolphin tours, sailing cruises, jet skiing, bi-plane tours, surf lessons, stand-up paddleboard lessons, wakeboarding, Segway tours, and Corolla Wild Hose tours right on site. Whatever you want to do on vacation, Kitty Hawk Kites has the activity covered with professional instructors and top-notch equipment.
There’s also a fudge shop—The Fudgery—where the fudge is made daily right in front of your eyes. There’s Scoops Ice Cream Parlor—the name says it all. Homemade ice cream is their specialty. But you can also find plenty of candy and sandwiches made on site.
What’s going to the beach without getting your hair braided or a temporary tattoo? Kids love it (and who isn’t a kid at heart). It’s always fun. And it’s called Life on a Sandbar & Beach Hair Wraps.
At the far end of the shopping center is Kitty Hawk Surf Co., (formerly Kitty Hawk Sports). The name has been updated to better reflect what they sell, but in the last two years, the entire store has been re-arranged, added to and enhanced—now with an extended selection of bathing suits and beach footwear, plus kayaks, kayak accessories, boogie boards, and surfboards. It’s all there.
What’s the best part of Jockey’s Ridge Shopping Center? . . . it’s a great place to watch the sun slowly slide behind the Jockey’s Ridge sand dune as it melts into the dune and the night. It is truly spectacular.
So visit Jockey’s Ridge Crossing anytime you’re in Nags Head or the Outer Banks. It’s more than a shopping center . . . it’s fun for the whole family.
